How to Bring the Fun Back Into Your Marriage

Updated: Oct 13, 2022

Has your marriage grown stale and distant over the years as the monotony of daily life shapes your interactions? Have tedious and separate routines whittled away the fun you once shared as a couple? Do you find yourself feeling too tired to say much to your husband beyond the tactical communication necessary to run a household? Maybe you feel like you are each in your own little world, despite living in the same house. If you’re like many married couples, you may find yourself living a parallel life to your husband and are wondering how to reconnect and bring back the fun you once shared.

To Make Your Marriage More Fun, Fist Make Your Life More Fun

We’ve all heard it said before, “be the change you want to see”. It's easy to brush off these words as cliche and overused, however by doing so, we miss the real wisdom this phrase offers. It's true, if you want to bring more fun into your marriage, you have to start with yourself.

So dust away the stress and monotony of daily life and resolve to make your life fun and exciting! But first, you need a game plan, so grab a pen and a paper and start brainstorming.

Here are some questions to think about as you make your list:

  • What makes you roar with laughter?

  • What’s the music you absolutely CAN’T resist dancing to when it plays?

  • What makes your face light up with a smile so big, your eyes squint at the edges?

  • What type of book makes you lose hours of sleep because you just can’t put it down?

  • What kind of food makes your mouth water just at the thought of it?

  • What hairstyle and outfit makes you feel sexy and unstoppable?

  • What can you do to make yourself feel so relaxed, you feel like a queen?

  • Once the ideas start flowing, keep going! Write down everything that comes to mind that makes you reconnect with the fun and exciting woman you are.

Here are some of the things on my list in case you need some ideas:

  • Sharing memes with my sisters

  • Playing bachata music while I cook

  • A new lipstick and perfume

  • Cheesy romance novels

  • Chocolate, obviously!

  • Silk pajamas

  • Brushing my hair (or better yet, having my daughter brush it for me!)

  • Coffee on my porch while I call my best friend

  • Watching my kids on the trampoline (and joining them!)

  • Cuddling my dog

Okay, got some ideas yet? Great!

30 Day Challenge

I challenge you for the next 30 days to do 3 of the things on your list. Every. Single. Day. Make your fun and laughter your PRIORITY above all else for a month and see how it affects everything and everyone around you. As women, we are POWERFUL. So much so, that our joy can radiate from us and shine onto all of our surroundings. Our fun and laughter become contagious. Our playfulness is magnetic and inviting. A boring marriage can’t stand a chance in the wake of a woman delighting in the fun she creates. The energy you bring into your marriage can change the whole dynamic of the relationship. So I invite you to give it a try! What do you have to lose?
